Party in a park: Movieworld’s Carnivale!

20140628_210915If you were in or around the Gold Coast (Queensland) in June, you probably heard that Movieworld (“Hollywood on the Gold Coast”) was throwing a “Carnivale” themed event throughout the month (which even extended into a couple dates in July).  So, I decided to go along and check it out with my hubby and some friends a few weeks ago. We weren’t really sure what to expect but going by other themed events they’ve done in the past, Movieworld generally throw some pretty good themed events (especially for families) and we generally have a good time at them. If you were one of those people who went to Movieworld as a kid like myself back in the day, you probably also noticed that the park itself has become a little outdated, run down and quieter on any other normal day, so I think coming up with these themed events was such a great idea – White Christmas, Fright NIght and now, Carnivale (and they seem to do them quite well!).

Driving along the Pacific Highway towards Movieworld, we could already see beams of light highlighting the night sky even from miles away – just like it was in Hollywood and we were ready to rock up to a red carpet event. Once we got to the gates, it was like we had arrived in Rio – music blasting, lights, colour, dancing, street performers and a real party vibe!

The food stalls (set up like markets) were pretty good too, we couldn’t help but try bits and pieces of different dishes to get a little taste of New Orleans and ‘the South’. It featured Chowder, Jambalaya, Po Boys, Gumbo, Smokey Ribs, BBQ Grill, New York Pizza, Pulled Pork Rolls, a Louisiana Seafood Boil Up and even some mocktails or lemonade with light up ice.

But, I think the highlight of the night had to be the parade at the end – filled with lights, colour, floats and all the street performers strutting their stuff, dancing down the streets between the crowds to end the evening. We couldn’t help dancing ourselves (the music was pretty contagious).

This is probably my record of photos in one blog post, but there were definitely a lot more that were taken. Unfortunately, because all photos were captured from my phone, and because there was so much movement going on around me, trying to capture clear photos was pretty hard to do. Not to mention, I had to get my party on myself right? Overall, I have to say, we all had a pretty fun night and it’s one of those things that can be enjoyed by young and old. Hopefully, they do this all over again next year because I’d be happy to go again.
